Hey people. Would some of you guys care to share your last sentence for your college essays. I just finished my wisconsin-madison essay and my common app essays but none of them have a nice ending. I feel as if my essays just end sort of abruptly. What is some advice on how to end college essays, or how did you do so?
I’m not applying to schools, but I have read many essays. It really depends on exactly what your last sentences are. Sometimes people think something sounds bad or awkward, but to others, it’s fine. Something that I personally like, though, is an ending that references the beginning of the essay or includes the title, haha. I don’t particularly know why; it’s my own quirk, but if you’re ever stuck on how to end, it might be something to try.
My kids were tortured by their last sentences. It was the hardest part for them. Maybe because a sincere, slightly cheesy (as they would say) summary or conclusion always seemed to sound best. And that just felt too personal and wrong to their little Midwestern souls. But they had pretty good admissions results.
My kids tend to write humerous essays. They would end their essays w some serious (but unpreachy) takeaway from the funny incident.
