How to excuse my bad grades?

During my freshman and sophomore years, i had a steady 3.7. My junior year, although i was taking tough courses, I got 4 C's for the year. This brought my average down to a 3.45. I have schools picked out where I am in the SAT and gpa ranges, but I know they take the trend of your performance into account. So far, my senior year is going well. I am currently at 3.6 average, but I don't know whether or not i should explain my poor performance junior year on my college applications because really, I have no good excuse

You have no good excuse–there is nothing to explain.

Unless you were sick all year or had family problems, there is no excuse. There are probably some students who had A’s in the classes you have C’s in.

You need to sit down and figure out why you got those Cs. Did the courses seem inexplicably harder than in previous years? Did you devote your energies to some non-academic activity instead of to your studies? Did you have some life-altering challenges (illness, death in the family, move, etc.)?

you answered your own questions. apparently there’s no excuse so there’s nothing to explain.
