Many people ask for others to give safety suggestions and then they check them out, etc etc. But how does one look for a safety with a more personalized search? I am having trouble seeing myself at any possible safety college and what makes it worse is that my stats are very unbalanced. But finding a quality safety you will enjoy is very difficult. How did those who have already applied looked for safeties?

My safeties are in-state universities where I will qualify for merit aid and need based aid. When combined, they render the cost of attendance almost close to nothing.

Safeties really depend on what you want to major in and where you live. I plan on majoring in biology so I can really go anywhere, but undergraduate research is something that must be present at the university. Both my safeties have this.

See that’s the problem… I would greatly prefer not to stay in-state but I guess beggars can’t be choosers unfortunately. I am looking for Economics as a likely path. I am in Pennsylvania so Pitt and Penn State Universities.

Pitt and Penn State are perfectly fine schools for many purposes. Of course, they may or may not be safeties, depending on your budget and your stats.

What can be a safety depends on your budget and your stats. The higher the budget, the more schools can fall into the safety range. The higher your stats, the more assured admission can be at a given school, and you may find assured merit scholarships at some schools.

If your budget is low but your stats are high, here are some possible safety candidates:

By listing your reach/match schools, we can suggest some similar schools that might be safeties.
