OP, are you comfortable with your D going to a college which teaches evolution and excludes intelligent design?

(I’ve always wondered why the two have to be mutually exclusive: God creates, then evolution takes over.) Mod: I’m done here. Hehe

240 In bio class or in comparative religion?

What is this, a litmus test?
I think science classes should teach the scientific method, which includes the the importance of data, objectivity, reproducibility, and freedom from bias.

This is just for the record and information sake and is not an attempt to hijack the thread.

However, just because something is repeated does not mean it is correct. Often, it could have been debunked, but people still repeat.

Worth reading every word because it breaks own the false number 97% claim in multiple ways and explains how false the 97% claim actually is. The number comes from a specific survey of specific scientists and EXCLUDED the majority of scientists who are experts on the issue. Go figure.

http://objectivescience.net/the-myth-of-the-climate-change-97-x/

Interesting pull-quote re the survey:

NOTE: Original, longer article appeared in the WSJ a few weeks ago and includes even more debunking data and statistics.

Back to the thread.

Actually, prezbucky, I don’t believe that faith and science are incompatible. But science and intelligent design are.

LasMa, lots of Christians go to public schools. And, the OP never said anything about religion, anyway. This is the weirdest thread.

Once actual political arguments began…

This is why discussions of politics and religion are taboo in bars. Hehe

Awcntdb, there’s another article on that site entitled:

So, maybe not the most credible source for rigorous research.

Hum… how can that be?

Are we scientists (I am one) creating new, never-before-seen genetically-engineered life in the lab? Yes, we are. Seems like an intelligent being (human) is designing something new and living - hat is the definition of intelligent design. If we can do it, why cannot someone else?

Now, if humans are arrogant enough to believe we are the only intelligent, rational beings every to exist who can design something such as new life, then that is a totally different question.

Acting, I was responding to prezbucky.

awcntbd, that is not a credible source. Sorry.

Try this one:

<a href=“ShieldSquare Captcha”>ShieldSquare Captcha;

Awcntdb, I never said I don’t believe God created life and the world. In fact, I do. And I believe evolution is the tool he used to do it.

@LasMa They are directly excerpting the Wall Street Journal. Could not link to the WSJ directly because one has to be subscriber.

Here is the WSJ link of anyone interested - exact same article:

<a href=“Joseph Bast and Roy Spencer: The Myth of the Climate Change '97%' - WSJ”>http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB10001424052702303480304579578462813553136

But, your statement really says nothing. I ask what if it is true that there are ways that scientist abuse data? Last time I checked, it was the climate change scientist who have been caught lying about data.

also at:

weddings
birthday parties
the zoo
first, second and third dates…

Yeah, best to stop or they shut the thread. The OP had a legitimate question, and I hope it got addressed well enough to take something from the thread.

The overwhelming majority of the world’s scientists agree that the observable data indicates a trend toward warming temperatures. All of us are here because of our interest in higher education for our kids or ourselves. Conspiracy theories really don’t have a place here. If that is what this thread has degenerated into, I agree that it is a good time to shut it down.

I wouldn’t want a school where many of the students are apolitical.
That would be like having a spouse who was asexual.
College students are * supposed* to be idealistic, energetic and committed to improving the world, if even just in their own corner.

I don’t think the OP has spent much time on any American college campus. If they had, the concern would seem wacky (and back when I was in college, pretty much none of the students found our profs to be charismatic; and indeed, falling for a bf should be a bigger concern for the OP).

In any case, Northeastern has been mentioned. Drexel should be. A lot of the colleges integrated in to a city with not much of a campus wouldn’t be terribly political either. Stevens. Poly-NYU. Pace. USC evidently is a mostly preprofessional place as well. Also party schools for rich kids like Miami and BU. They’re too busy partying.

I would appreciate if people just stop making stuff up. I am a scientist that talks to other scientists around the world all the time. There is no such consensus among scientists, except written in the media.

However, there is one thing that would sell me on global warming and this climate theory stuff:

I will buy into climate change when Al Gore, Robert Kennedy, and Congressmen who support it give up their private planes, limousines and mansions.

Whose lifestyle would you rather have - Al Gore’s or that of the lower-end lifestyle of people who follow him?

Q1: A prius or a Limo? Gore and his friends got it right - the limo.

Q2: Public high speed trains or private helicopter? Helicopter wins for Gore.

Q3: A cramped commercial jet or a Gulfstream? Gulfstreams are way more comfortable. They fly great and above commercial air traffic. Gore is correct there too, and he has two of them. Go Gore!

I could go on, but the examples illustrate I more enjoy the lifestyle that Gore and his friends live. If he and his friends are not concerned about CO2 coming out the back of their jets, helicopters and limos, then I am not.

I pledge that the day they stop that lifestyle, I will stop that lifestyle too. :)

OK, I am now done on the climate stuff - waiting on Gore’s next move.

<a href=“Al Gore Wants a Tesla, Flies Commercial (Mostly)”>http://finance.yahoo.com/blogs/daily-ticker/al-gore-wants-tesla-flies-commercial-mostly-150208852.html

“Gore admits to “sometimes” chartering a private jet but he doesn’t own one, claims to be a “regular” on Southwest Airlines (LUV) and flew to NY last week on American Airlines to promote The Climate Reality Project’s 24-hour webcast, The Cost of Carbon. "Every once in a while I charter but I use public transit and commercial airlines,” he says.

For more local trips, Gore has two Lexus hybrids and – like many others – has his eye on the new Tesla (TSLA) Model S. “I haven’t gotten one yet…my friend Elon Musk and his team have done a terrific job on that.”

Of course, you as a scientist know that the use of private jets is hardly the leading cause – or even among the top several dozen leading causes – of climate change. But hey.

A scientist would know that whether or not certain prominent politicians choose to do things which may be at odds with some of their favorite talking points has absolutely nothing to do with the validity of the scientific evidence.

In other news, people who sincerely believe in hell have been known to sin.
