How to get a 5 on AP Chemistry?

Can anyone help please? My teacher is a good teacher, but she is going really slow and I don't understand a lot of the things. We have only done like 7 or 8 chapters in Zumdhal. I am afraid that I am far behind. I really want a 5 on the exam so what are some good things to do? What review books are good? Please help. Thanks

If you want a 5, I'd say go w/ Barron's

you have enough time to read through it

If your teacher is good, I would trust that she knows what she is doing, especially if past years' students can testify to that.

8 chapters in Zumdahl is fine if your teacher taught the material well. In fact, you've covered about half of the most important material.

I would suggest reading chapters 12 and 13 on your own. Kinetics can be learned right after chapter 4 imo. Equilibrium is an easy concept and a lot of similarily basic math. Remember to do all the problems in which obtain the answers to.

Acid-Base (chapter 14) is really building upon equilibrium concepts. The math is in most cases less tedious.

Chapters 9-11 consist mostly of important conceptual topics (less in 11). But it's fine to skip over liquids/solutions chapters and study their rate properties as long as you know what an aqueous solution is and its most basic unit M (mol/L).

I am really screwed. My teacher doesn't teach. He always tell us to read the chapter, give us problems from the end of the chapter, quizzes, and tests. He teaches on the board about 2 times per month. When he DOES teach on the board, he only does it for about 30 minutes. His lectures are VERY good though. But he needs to do it more often. We only covered chapters 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7. Right now we are doing chapter 18. Next week we will go into bonding.

I remember in my AP Chem class we covered 4 chapters in Hill/Petrucci first semester and I was fine...the secret is to study ahead of the teacher, especially if you know he/she sucks. Peterson's is a good prep book -- heck, my teacher recommended we use Peterson + the book outlines as a textbook last year. Of course, most people did badly, but still, Peterson's is very detailed. Zumdahl is a great textbook (it was the one I read ahead with) and really all you have to do is READ it, several times, if necessary, and you'll get an easy 5. Don't rely on the teacher for the information.

If I can do over half the problems in half the chapters of Zumdahl, will I be in good shape for a 5?

Princeton Review has pretty good review summaries of the different topics in the AP Chem exam so u might want to try that. otherwise i would reccommend that u study from old exams, especially for the free response. if u want to do good, u should do more problems. zumdahl is pretty good at explaining things so do as many review problems as u can.

hopefuly u have a good teacher, cause that really helps to study for the ap chem exam. good luck studying!
