There will be ranking on both the SUNY and the Common application. Coming into high school as a second semester junior, it is highly unlikely you will be part of you high school’s ranking.
The SUNY application will also ask, what kind of diploma will have by the time you graduate. It would really be a stretch to say that you will get an advanced regents diploma. Most of the candidates for scholarship will minimally have an advanced regents diploma with many having an advanced regents diploma with mastery in either math, science or both.
What regents will you be sitting for in June?
What are your SAT/ACT scores?
I’ll be sitting for 7 regents - the only ones I’m leaving out are Geometry and Physical Sciences. I’ll take them in January and that should complete the Advanced Regents Diploma requirements. My SAT scores aren’t out yet. I’ll also take 3 SAT subject tests (Physics, Chemistry, Math II) in October.
I thought colleges didn’t care much about Regents scores. Do they?
NYS public colleges may care about the Regents. They’re our state exams.
SUNY & CUNY the State and the City University of NY cares about the regents (which are the NYS exams)
I am really surprised that you will be sitting for science regents especially with the 1200 min lab requirement, when you were not here half of the year. S basically you are sitting for algebra and trig, where you must score an 85 on each of the 3 math exam. You must also score an at least an 85 on 3 science exams.
Will you get the 6 credits of foreign language and the LOTE in?
I already have the 6 foreign language credits and I’ll take the LOTE exam this June. I made up for the lab requirements with extra lab.
As for the 85+ requirement, I’ll be fine because I took higher level math and science back in my country. The Regents exams are relatively easier.
@sybbie719, In another thread OP says they have a college degree. Doesn’t that make them ineligible for both TAP and the Excelsior?
If Op already has a degree from anywhere in the world:
- they should not be attending high school in NYS or anywhere else
- They will not be eligible for any State or Federal aid (other than loans). Yes, this means that they are not eligible for TAP or Excelsior
