How to get a loan? (No US cosigner)

I apologize if this is the wrong section, but I couldn’t find another section regarding paying for college

Here’s my situation: parents are divorced, only my father is a US citizen. Mother lives in Europe (once had a green card but moved back to her home country). Father has 200k a year income so I won’t be eligible for any fafsa. Father also refuses to cosign student loan (not going to discuss why, but I can promise you he won’t budge on that). I don’t have any family or close friends living in the US. Originally I had intended to have my European mother consign, but from my my recent understanding, pretty much no US lender would allow a foreign cosigner due to the risk involved. I’m still a minor so I literally have no credit whatsoever. What should I do?

FAFSA is an application form. It is not financial aid. You ARE eligible to file it in order to get a Direct Loan of $5500 as a freshman. How much do you have to make up? How much can your family pay directly?

@Erin’sDad I apologize for the terminology mistake.

Well, family will pay absolutely nothing. There’s no discussion about it.

You can:

  • target US schools where u are a competitive candidate for merit aid
  • apply to US service academies (e.g., US Naval Academy, etc)
  • apply for an ROTC scholarship
  • target low cost US schools
  • go to a low cost school in your mother’s home country or other country
  • ask your mother take out loans in her home country
  • take a gap year(s) to work and save money to pay for school yourself
  • enlist in the US military then go to college for free on the G.I. Bill benefits

There are lots of options

How much do you have saved from your summer/school year job?

What community college is near your home within commuting distance?

Do you live with dad?

What does dad expect you to do after high school?

What are your stats?

Ok…I looked at your posting history. Looks like you live with your dad.

Your GPA has issues, and I’m guessing that is why your dad won’t pay…

None of the schools that you’re considering will be affordable.

I suggest going to a CC, getting top grades and then maybe your dad will pay for the rest of your education.
