How to get an 800 in critical reading

Taggart, sounds like you went to the Princeton class. :P

Nope. I went to the semi-private class taught by Princeton graduates.

=P

It was expensive too, but worth it. Haha, I got an offered recommendation letter out of the deal as well.

I think that to get an 800 on the CR ultimately depends on one's personality. In my own personal experience and knowing how things ended up for my peers, I've noticed that people who tend to be strong in the math section tend to do poorly or mediocre on the CR.

Recently, I was given a study tip thing from my IB Economic's teacher called SQ3R. I think Taggart mentioned about how when you skim the passages you should think "What do I need to know" and all that ladeedadeeda. That seems like it would be a good approach to the CR questions. I never thought of that.

Speaking of which, Princeton rocks! It is a shame that some people are too good for it.

SQ3R is also on the CollegeBoard site, just FYI.

How many CR questions can you get wrong and still get an 800? I know it's different for every test, but approximately what number?

maybe one or two :( When I took the test I scored and 800 on, I just asked myself before selecting my final answer for each question, "Does this change the original question?" That should at the very least help you to stop and think about your own thought processes. Good Luck!

Xcotter--check out the last pages of the Blue Book, it should be out there.

That’s my problem too!
I get around 800 in maths and writing but only 700 in reading.
My SAT is 15 days away. What should I do?

Im really scared…

Well ive been practicing CRs since July…and ive done about 45ish CR practice sections…and Im wondering if someone out here was able to jump from a 460 all the way to a 700…just asking… kthxbai

@Kapilio: if you are scoring around 460 now, dont aim too high if you sit for your SAT1 in Oct. On the other hand, if you have time then anything is possible!

For a second, I thought this was going to be a post by Suleyman.

^ not nice. lol.

Kapilio i had around that score as a sophomore. I got a 510 on the June SAT that i took as a sophomore. I improved my vocabulary and did a lot of passage practice and scored a 680 last March. In October, I’m aiming for a 750+. Hope it goes well.

Also, on other forums, people who post on dead topics are usually harshly excoriated by other members. However, here it is not really that bad. Anyone else realize that?

^^ See thats the thing, Ive been going over direct hit vocabulary and practice CR sections in the Blue book… I realized i wasted my time with the CR section in the grubers in august… so i went hardcore with the blue book…

haven’t received below 800?the full scores are 800,you sure you know it’s the reading of SAT?

When I saw that the first post was from 2006, I jumped to the last page out of some sick desire to see said harsh excoriation, only to find posters civilly conversing. It’s refreshing :)

When I saw the author of this thread, before I saw that it was an old revived thread, my first thought was "is that kid STILL trying to transfer, again?? Why the heck is he taking the SAT’s?? LOL

Dude, you just need to learn some basic strategies and do practice questions. Magazines aren’t gonna help much. They might help your comprehension but only on a small scale.
-For your basic strategies, check out this guy’s article right here in cc. Noitaraperp who got a perfect score(2400) on the SAT. here’s the link…

or just google “How to attack the sat critical reading section effectively” I can’t stress enough how important this stuff is.
-For your practice…get the big blue book (very important again). With enough practice, you’ll soon be getting 800s
Good luck!

@Magccalberta: This thread is 5 years old so I think it’s time to let go of it. Thanks though for the link.

Anything is possible.
