How to get in-state tuition in Florida after moving?

After I finish community college in Iowa, I am planning on moving to Jacksonville FL to be with my boyfriend and because I generally just love the area much much more. We would probably be living with his mom for that year, and I would get a full time job to pay her rent and save a little more for college so I have less to take out in loans. I am studying history and am planning on staying there after college and finding a history-related job somewhere down there. However, I cannot afford the out-of-state tuition at University of Northern Florida in Jacksonville. It says online I’d have to wait 12 months before transferring and being eligible for in-state tuition if I would be able to show 12 months-worth of proof that I am a resident of the state. What kind of proof would I all need to be 100% solid and undeniably a resident (because Im not JUST moving to Florida for college, I have other reasons too and am planning to stay in the state after college).

My understanding is that rent/own, car registration, insurance, voter id , bank account, health insurance etc. moved to flordia address.

Have your boyfriend’s mother make up a lease for you showing move in date, amount you pay in rent, etc. You’ll have no utilities, so try to get as much written into the lease as possible. Have some mail sent to you and save the envelopes with the dates (transfer your bank statements, charge cards etc.) If you do everything online, save a copy of the change of address notices.

Get a DL or ID from the state. Anything you do like join a health club, make sure you keep a record.

You probably won’t be independent for financial aid purposes. If you are on your parents’ group insurance, that may be the best deal for you. Florida doesn’t have expanded medicaid, and other insurance is expensive. If you can get a full time job with benefits, that will help.
