I'm a junior in high school and I am just lost about how to prepare for picking the right college and then med school. I'm not a genius, but I do have a 3.9 GPA and I am in honors science courses, above level math, honors English and honors economics currently. I am looking at uconn for my regular 4 yr degree and also there medical school within the university. I was wondering what I have to do in high school and during the college application process differently to gear myself towards getting accepted to med school. And also how great of a student do you have to be to get accepted into uconn s med school.

Just make sure you make yourself approachable. Enjoy what you do and it will show so that will make colleges pick you. And always, as a general guideline, apply early.

I don’t think anything you do during the college application process other than pick a school that you will do well in and that has a good medical careers committee will affect your chances at med school. It is what you do in college that Med Schools look at (GPA, Volunteering, Research, MCATs).

However, you may want to explore if a medical career is for you now somewhat by volunteering at your local hospital/nursing home, etc. You would want to take challenging science classes to ensure that you like them and are good at them.
