How to get off the WAITLIST

It's pretty simple. Pester the crap out of admissions!!!! Confess your commitment and love for the University. Contrary to popular belief, writing letters, shooting emails, sending phone calls aren't actually off-putting but will score you points on the waiting list. I personally have visited admissions myself last week and asked how a prospective applicant gain admission from the waiting list. The representative told me that students who demonstrate the most interest, whether it's through emails, phone calls, and updating the University on achievements, would have the highest chances of getting off the waiting list. Make them know who you are.

I've heard of a story of a student who was waitlisted at another college in NYC and as his gimmick to get off the waitlist, he baked cookies and brought them to admissions. It was cheesy but needless to say, it worked! He was admitted off the waiting list at an Ivy league school. Hey, anything to make them know who you are. It also doesn't always hurt to be different.

All hope is not lost.

hi house, and let me add:

1) give up your FA; there is NO WAY they will be offering FA from the waitlist (sad but true)

2) be willing to enter ANY school at SU that has room, including Human Ec, VPA (Comm) etc…you can transfer later or double up…

between cookies, flowers and the above, you should be good to go…

Great addition rodney. As said as the financial aid part is, it’s true.

oh no, are you guys serious about the financial aid?? i’m on the wait list but there is no way that i could go without any financial aid! i’ve sent emails and written letters and received no word back! guess waiting til may 15??

eastcoastgirl, hate to say it, but you will not receive any financial aid if they take you from the waitlist so you may want to be careful about your decision on giving up on a school that has already given you aid.

Best of luck!

honestly, I did not contact admissions at all after taking a place on the waitlist. in fact, I never gave it a second thought.
however, I never applied for financial aid in the first place, so if you think that helps, then so be it, but if that was all it took then they would’ve accepted me initially.
now I’m in, so I guess it doesn’t matter. I really just think they made a mistake and should’ve taken me in the first place- I would probably be attending if they had. but by the time I even found out I was waitlisted I had looked into other places…
