Hello, I am a sophomore right now and I took SAT on December and got 2050 (630 on reading, 770 on math, 650 on writing with essay 8) I realize that 2050 is not good enough to get into schools that I want to (caltech, cornell, cmu, etc.)

So are there tips to help me improve my sat score up to 2200 in four months (for May 2014 SAT)? Grammar is so hard and I always get up getting at least more than 6 problems wrong no matter how many times I solve practice tests.

Thank you in advance!

The SAT Writing score is the easiest section to improve on. A properly motivated student should be able to score in the 700-800 range…with a modest amount of preparation. The objective is to get a perfect score on the multiple-choice grammar questions and earn at least a “9” out of 12 on the essay. Four months is plenty of time.

Options:
[ul][]Self-study using the right books.
[]Class with a test prep company.
[li]Private tutor.[/li][/ul]
The cheapest option is the first, but it can also be the least efficient (with respect to time and effort).

Costs of SAT prep classes can vary widely. Instructors can be very experienced or not experienced at all. Students can be placed in a class with others who have similar ability…or not. Classes can be a good fit for students who need a peer group to stay motivated.

Private tutors can be great. With a skilled/experienced tutor, one-on-one sessions can be the most efficient approach. Depending on the market and the skill of the tutor, the cost of private instruction can be less or more than that of a class. Ask around for word-of-mouth recommendations in your locale.
