So I have recently taken the SAT after attending a prep-class and received a 2050. This was rather disappointing because my goal was a 2200. Now I am back at square one a few months later, and I am signed up to take the SAT in October to redeem myself. Here's the breakdown of my May SAT score:

CR: 670
Math: 650
Writing: 730
Essay: 10

My academic gpa is a 4.3 and I am a senior in high school. I am lost as to which is the best method for attaining my 2200.

Advice?

I am very proficient at math in school but for some reason I cannot score over a 700, i believe one reason is that I usually run out of time on the sections. Please help, the SAT is fast approaching and I need to prepare to the best of my abilities. Should I get an SAT tutor? All advice and suggestions are greatly appreciated. :)

also: I have Gruber's SAT book as well as the Blue Book

You’re only 6-8 additional correct answers away from 2200. With so little time left I recommend that you get a personal tutor. If you and the tutor decide that you need more time, delay the test to December.

only 2 weeks to improve isn’t much time, though not necessarily impossible. I’d also suggest getting a tutor b/c they could help you identify ASAP what your weak areas are. That is the key though, zeroing in on only the weak points. Taking more practice tests, doing generalized preps/reviews, etc will not help you in two weeks (or two months in my opinion).

The best way to get a tutor is if you can have someone you know/trust recommend one to you. If that’s not possible, look online and try to find someone who takes their business seriously and has a somewhat decent website. There are a lot of tutors out there with only craigslist posts littered with typos and stating they are just college students looking for extra money. Although college students can be extremely effective, use your best judgement so you get someone highly qualified. Count on spending about $15-30/hour. I think in 3-4 hours you could theoretically bump your score, but it’s definitely a tight deadline!! Good luck!
