I’m a sophomore at a academically inclined institution. Last year as a freshman, I took 3 honors classes (spanish, biology, english) and 2 level three classes (geometry, history). I got all A’s in them except for biology and english. This year has been rough for me. I’m taking 6 honors classes (english, chemistry, spanish, history, algebra 2, and anatomy). So far, I have A’s in english and math, but the rests are B’s. I’m used to getting all A’s without much effort, but classes are getting harder and I’m still a lazy person. My biggest problem is procrastination. I can’t get myself to put in the effort that these classes require. I get really angry when my classmates get better grades than me, but I do nothing about it. HELP?! Can I raise my grades to all A’s by the end of the school year?, I’m 1/4 done with the school year. i just want to raise my GPA while not dropping my classes. I want to go to a college that is ranked #60 or better on us news.
No one can help you but yourself. If you just can’t find yourself motivated to improve, no one can give you that motivation. It’s all on you. Personally, I am really competitive, so I always try to do better than my friends, which helped me all the way to where I am today.
You can raise to all As depending on how low your grades are. Regarding you getting angry for others getting higher grades, you don’t have the right to be angry at people who spend more time looking into the material than you, and makes sense for them to get better grades if they are putting the time in. To improve your grades, try to set a goal: “I want to bring my grade from an x this quarter to a y next quarter”, “I want to get at least a 93 on this next test, so I need to study,” it seems like you are competitive so maybe “I want to get a better class rank, from a to b” etc. Once you get home, turn off any unnecessary distractions and just knock out assignments. I use myHomework and enter all my homework, it is so satisfying to swipe across to put a line through an assignment, knowing I have one less thing to do.
I hope I helped! If you have any more questions, please ask!
Ultimately, if you want to succeed you’re going to have to put in the effort to get there. If you’re having problems with procrastination, I’d strongly recommend that you look into ways of getting around it. The XKCD author would turn off his computer whenever he left a website to go to another (unless it was for the purpose of reading a linked article/finding a source/etc.) to boost his productivity. Making a list, as @MPC6789 suggested is another great idea that could help you. And you can always try to find a place to do your work and study away from the distractions of technology, like a park or bench. Or even your porch, should your family have one.
