My student is not a computer science major, what classes can she take to start coding/programming and not to affect her GPA too much?

The math department offers just what you are looking for: Program in Computing, or PIC classes. The material of PIC 10ABC is “roughly” that of CS 31/32, but is intended to be a bit less intense. That isn’t to say they aren’t a challenge to some, but in general, they’re considered easier. I had no programming experience prior to PIC 10A, and it really wasn’t that bad.

I wish I has known this class early! What about the grades distribution?

Well it really depends on the professor…some are “nicer” than others with it. I’m not sure how many mine gave, but I believe when it came down to it, a 76% was a B- or something like that. It may sound a bit “high,” but I’m positive the midterms will be easier than CS 31 or 32
