how to overcome the fear of rollercoasters?

Roller Coasters are fun. :)

kchen - they seriously might close Topgun? I love that ride. I definitely don't want to dip into the water, though...it's already pretty low. I love Vortex more, so it's okay.

im leaving for South Cal this mOnday.
i still feel a bit uneasy. give me some final advice quench my fears.

Don't feel uneasy! It's a good experience. Just be open.

They were thinking about it at one point, but the ride's so popular, so I don't know if they're still going to take it out. I only know of one person who got killed by Top Gun, and that was only because he was in a danger zone. I know that they took out Stealth, and that was because there were a lot of complaints about the sudden stops at the end of the ride. Vortex is the best. I wholeheartedly agree.

wow lol.. I thought I was the only one... I am truly not afraid of rollercoasters or any aspect of the ride itself (heights, etc.) However, during the drop, that acceleration, it feels as though my heart stops and that I cannot breathe. There is no cure. The only thing that would work would be to bring an epi-pen, portable adrenaline, and inject epinephrine into ourselves before we go... otherwise no method or just-do-it attitude would make rollercoasters enjoyable, and so we must live with the ridicule of our "cooler" and more "macho" friends, who in all honesty do not, and can not, understand what we go through.

I'm basically the same way about roller coasters. Can't stand them.

But 2 weeks ago, I went to Lake Compounce as part of a physics field trip. My friends made me ride two wooden roller coasters, Wildcat, and Boulder Dash (fastest wooden coaster in New England). And I'm a person that had never been on roller coasters until then out of fear. It wasn't bad at all. I had fun.

Just remember: If little girls can go on the ride, so can you.

Hahaha. That was the statement that comforted me when every time I stood in line for a roller coaster as a little kid.

Okay...I had the SAME EXACT problem until like, 2 months ago. My friends and I went to Knotts and I rode the FIRST rollercoaster of my life.

It's not really that scary...more exhilerating than anything. It's the WAITING that's scary. I psyche/freak myself out when I'm in line. Maybe it's the same with you? Try one and if you don't like it, just don't go on any others. (:

Don't be such a wimp and just go on one.

omg zipper i have the same problem! twists and turns are perfectly fine but those drops omg i feel like my heart is gonna fly out

i try to avoid those rides

On the way up to the top of the drop just look straight ahead.

Or close your eyes and tense yourself up...it helps lessen the free-fall feeling, if that's what you're scared of. Makes it seem more like a ride, and less like you're just hurtling down toward the ground with nothing to keep you up.

Chloroform.

^hahaha...you may not remember you went on, but you can say you went on, nice

Everyone is scared of the drops...thats what makes it fun :)
No drop I've experienced ever compared to Millenium Force up in Ohio...I recommend everyone get on that roller coaster if you're ever at Cedar Point

I just got over my fear of roller coasters- and beleive me , this is a big accomplishment because I am a real scaredy-cat when it comes to heights- just ride the goliath with your eyes open. it all gets easier after that

Im going to six flags morrow! again hooray for rollercoasters

I have the same problem and I finally realized that closing my eyes during the drop made it worse. If you open your eyes, you feel it less and it actually is less scary looking.
