Hey guys, Ive been thinking of trying out for USABO this year.
What would I need to do in order to secure my chances of becoming a semifinalist, and possibly make it to camp?

Would I need to start studying from right now itself?

Any advice from previous USABO'ers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Have you taken any biology classes at school? AP Biology or anything.

I strongly suggest you read the Campbell Biology textbook and know the material in it WELL. Not just general concepts, but also details. (I never took the USABO but I know several people who made it to semifinals and a finalist who made it the camp.) How long you need to study depends on you. But it surely wouldn’t hurt to start early.

Check out this thread for some advice from past USABO’ers: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sciences/1355881-official-2013-usabo.html

Oh actually there’s already a thread for this year’s USABO. Not sure if you’ve seen it yet or not but here’s the link:

Though reading through old threads might be good for getting advice too.

Now that I think about it, the Summer Programs forum isn’t really the best place to ask about USABO… Oh well. Good luck!

Alright haha thx a lot!
