How to raise my SAT score to 580 on Reading and Math

Okay i'm a high school student and i'm running out of time, meaning i'm a senior. I want the bright futures scholarship, so the score i'm shooting for is 585 on both my reading and math score. The last SAT I took I scored a 530 on the reading and 450 on the math. It's December right now and i'm retaking it March 14. I'm freaking out because I don't know where to start. I have the blue book, but it seems so large. I have anxiety and looking at that thing freaks me out because it has a lot of information. I wanted to know if I could get my score to that level. I also want to know if I have to take all the practice test timed. Please can someone give me an outline for what I need to do. I'm also really struggling with passage reading, the lengthy one in particular. How did you go about tackling the long passage reading. Please and thank you!

Ok, so first of all, you have PLENTY of time. Seriously, that’s more than I had and I made a much bigger improvement than what you’re aiming for.

First of all, I gotta tell you, the blue book is NOT THAT BIG. Seriously, it may seem intimidating, but once you get into it, there’s not THAT much info. The REAL meat of the book is the practice tests, which you HAVE to do. There’s NO WAY around it. You don’t have to do them all at the same time, dont have to time them, etc but you HAVE TO DO THEM. It’ll give you a clear idea of what types of questions and knowledge the SAT tests, you’ll know the math formulas by heart, you wont waste time reading instructions and whatnot during the test. you don’t even have to take a whole test at once. I just did a couple of sections each day, more if I felt like it. On days where you just arent feeling it, just learn vocab or something simple.

For math, I HIGHLY recommend pwnthesat, he has a q&a tumblr that has questions (and answers) posted every day. Subscribe to it and you’ll get a daily dose of sat math questions in your inbox. The formulas are BASIC as hell. You dont need to know trig or calc or any of that advanced stuff, the tough thing about the SAT is that it measures your LOGIC, not your math knowledge.

For CR, LEARN THE VOCAB. Do maybe 10-20 words per day and keep reviewing them. Vocab questions are the easiest points if you know the vocab. As for passages, you have to practice practice practice. Find a method that works for you and eventually, you’ll get it. For me, it took around 60 CR sections before everything clicked and I was able to get an 800 (obvs since youre aiming lower, you dont have to do as much)

The best way to prepare for the sat is to do 1 practice test to get a grip for the exam then to get a good nights sleep. Trust me, a ton of preparation wont help much. Its better to sleep well
