How to raise SAT score 200+ points for the January test? Weird score fluctuations, and i feel stuck.

I am taking the SAT this weekend and it would be my first real SAT since seventh grade (currently I am in tenth.) I’ve only taken practice tests and the scores have fluctuated a lot but seen to settle around 2100 and 2200 but I am aiming for a 2300+, so I need a 200 score increase. I’ve done TONS of practice, I think I understand the questions pretty well, but sometimes when taking practice tests I still miss a lot of questions. Recently I feel like I am just stuck at this level and cannot improve, but I really really really need to improve by January.

My lowest score has always been math at a 700 on practice tests, and i can’t get more than 710. I have used Steve Warner’s math book, many Princeton Review practice tests, and CB practice tests. Usually i am capable of solving the problems I miss but take a bit of time, and often times i spend too much time on easy/dumb questions.

Also, I posted this in a separate thread, but are Erica Meltzer’s CR and Grammar books actually helpful? I’ve heard many mixed reviews and they are too expensive so I do not want to buy one if it is not good. My grammar and CR scores have been around 700-750 recently.

I’ve gotten 800’s before on all sections but not at the same time. Please give me tips on how I can improve quickly within a month for January, I feel like I have exhausted all methods and done soooo much practice already; I really don’t know what is wrong with my score. I am not dumb. And I am just so angry and nervous. Thank you.

My scores have been from 2310 to 2270 to 2090 to 2150 on practice tests. My math never improves and reading and writing have gone down from the first test ( i got 800 on both).

Hi. I have the same goals, but I’m a junior. I also had the same results when I did practice tests - between 2080 and 2300!!! (inclusive)

On the actual thing I got 2210. It’s also math dragging my score down. (which is very ironical, because math is my “best subject”) I hope to improve by 30 points on critical reading and by 60 points on math to achieve my goal score (2300), so we’re in the same boat.

but once we reach 2200+, luck plays a huge role. I calculated my score using a different curve and it was a 2300. Let’s hope the next curves will be lenient.

I agree that depending on the test there can be so much score fluctuation. I took the SAT in November and got a 750 on math, but I had never gotten higher than a 670 on a practice test! So I would say if you feel like you have done a lot of studying but are still getting scores that are lower than preferable, don’t stress about it. You could get lucky and the problems on the actual test might be easier than normal for you and you could get a higher score!
