MIT allows November test day for EA. So how does it work? MIT application gets send in and November test score get send later? How do they review application without test score?
I would suggest using one of your free score reports for MIT if you are taking the November SAT or ACT.
I guess the question I had was do they start reviewing applications without SAT scores or they wait for the score to arrive?
It’s possible that they leave the applications that are missing test scores to be reviewed until those scores are. I’m sure they have plenty to start with. Regardless, they won’t make a decision until all November scores are in.
I got 800 on SAT math 2, but only 710 on biology in October. I am retaking biology in November. Should I send my October biology score and indicate that I am retaking in November, or send just math and indicate that biology will be taken in November? Applying EA.
Yes, let them know; however they say that they only care that your scores reach a 700. That’s enough to let them know that you should be able to handle the course work. If they don’t love the rest of your application, you won’t get accepted even if your bio score reaches an 800. Likewise, if they love your application a 710 won’t get you rejected. Consider spending the day doing something else. Of course, I’m only speaking for MIT. Other schools might care about test scores more than MIT cares about them.
^^^^ If you have a SAT 2 in the 600s and they love your app. What then?
That’s exactly what happened to me. My physics score was only a 620. Get this, I was deferred, not even rejected. I decided it was worth taking another exam. I took chemistry in January and asked for my scores to be sent even before my results came back to ensure that they would be received on time. I got a 700. I also got accepted! I can’t say that I wouldn’t have gotten accepted with a 620; there are students with below 700’s that do get accepted. But I do believe that they might have been concerned if they hadn’t received the new score and very possibly I wouldn’t be at MIT today if I hadn’t tried again.
Hehe… you had some balls sending in the 620. We’ll never know, but if you had something in the 650-690 range, it would be interesting to see if you would still have been deferred?
@rothstem Congratulations. That is great! could it be that you had other things like URM, recruited athlete or girl applying to engineering?
It could be that I had excellent essays that I worked very hard on which made sure that admissions would get to know what makes me uniquely me. It could be that I had excellent recommendations from teachers who probably discussed my love for learning and how I pulled all night study sessions to help my peers do well too. It could be the clubs I founded or the research and volunteer work I did or the online classes I took. It definitely can’t be my athletic ability. However, even athletes at MIT have to be able to pass the required rigorous courses here. It could also be that MIT is telling the truth when they say that a 700 or above is high enough. Don’t you get that there is so much more to life than test scores? MIT’s admissions office gets it.
