Hi, I’m a senior taking the SAT in October. My first SAT, which I took in August, I got a 1460- 780 in English and 680 in math- which is 10 points short of the cutoff for applying. The October scores don’t come out until the 19th of October, but the UCAS application is due the 15th of October. How would I send the new score?
ooph that is tough. You have to submit the scores you have anyway, but you can get your GC (or whoever is doing your recommendation) to predict your October SAT score for UCAS. Be aware that if you get an offer it is likely to be conditional on getting that score, so be careful that your GC doesn’t over promise.
Does the course that you are applying for have an aptitude test? They will care more about that score than the SAT.
You should also check to see if there are any score requirements for your specific degree program. My son is reading Maths & CS and the CS department wanted to see a minimum 750 math SAT score which exceeds the general University requirements.
I wouldn’t worry about sending an actual score report from the College Board. My son did that with his ACT score when he submitted his UCAS and his college never saw it.
@collegemom3717 Thanks for your help; I’m applying to Classics and English, so I have to take the ELAT and CAT. Should I contact the college about this, since the admissions tests don’t take place until October 31st, by which time I would’ve gotten my SAT scores?
@HazeGrey Thanks for the reply, I’m applying to Classics and English, so I feel like my English score is definitely good enough. Frankly, I don’t know what happened with math, I was scoring 740+ on all the official practice tests I’d taken. Should I contact the college I’m applying to, and ask if they’d let me submit that one part a little later?
Are you applying with any other relevant scores? (ie SAT subject tests or APs in Lit, Lang, Latin, Hx etc?)
In general, I would not contact the college: there is a system, there is no reason not to follow it, and they are thinly staffed. I get the anxiety, but with a predicted mark in the acceptable range they aren’t going to toss your application. Also, your CAT & ELAT scores will be much more determinative than your SAT score for deciding whether you get an interview offer.
