Hi all - our HS senior is in the process of finalizing some apps via the common app. He attended the Hopkins Engineering Innovation course this summer (great program, by the way), received a great grade and a transcript showing he earned 3 college credits.
In the common app he’s put it in under the college coursework section. But there’s no place to specify the course name, grade, credit earned, etc. (This is not dual enrollment, so it doesn’t show up on his HS transcript)
What’s the best/right way to have this included in his applications? Does he need to send the transcript (either his “unofficial” copy he has or and official one from the school)? Or email his admissions officer directly? Or something else?
My son is applying as well and also took a college course; his was just computer science through the local community college.
What seems to be the way to do it has 2 parts:
Put it under the college coursework section like you did. I believe it just has fields for the name of the school and the dates attended.
Under the Writing tab, and then under Additional Information, the second field says “You may use the space below to provide any additional information you wish to share.” That’s where he said the name of the course, the number of credits, and the grade.
He also had his transcript from the community college sent to all the schools. That felt sort of silly, but we were confused about whether or not it was required (I think it is?), so he sent it just to be safe.
Yes, go to the college website and you can request the transcripts be sent. Most use parchment and it is sent electronically.
There were a few colleges D21 applied to that said to wait until after admissions and enrollment in the directions, but most wanted any transcripts. She needed to document a final year of a foreign language requirement that did not fit into her high school schedule, but was not a dual enrollment course, so we looked at this step in the process seriously.
The colleges my daughter applied to had different ways of reporting that kind of credit. Some of them were confusing. I would ask specifically for each school. The forum champions on CC are very helpful with this. A couple of the schools encouraged emailing the AO for questions like this. It is a good way to show interest and get on their radar.
Thanks all - this all makes sense. Some combination of the Additional Info section, sending the transcript and, for some schools, connecting direct with the AO seems to be the way to go.
