I know I posted something similar, but know that I think about it, I don't know the best approach to find a doctor to shadow.
1. Is the best way just to call the doctor using the phone numbers in the phone book and wait for his response?
2. Or is it better to go at his office and directly ask him?
3. Is it advisable for me to let him peruse my academic records?
4. Basically, how did you all do to be able to shadow a doctor?

I bet many of you guys know a lot about this and I hope I can receive some feedbacks.
Thanks.

Well currently I am shadowing a doctor in a hospital..

My mom is an rn and she knows the doctor that I am currently shadowing, I would say just email him because another girl that is also shadowing said she emailed the doctor and asked him if he allows students to shadow him...

Just ask around and see if anyone you know knows a doctor who shadows if not just look one up and email and ask, I mean it does it hurt to ask you get a simple yes or a simple no!!

I would say look at the hospital directory if the hospital in your area has a directory online, and if not go to the hospital or call and find out more information on shadowing a doctor

My School has a program that one day a year we can job shadow a person of any job that we might be interested in. It's really nice but I live in a small town with a small hospital so I only got to shadow a nurse. But it was still a good expirence.

The program that does it is called pathways so if you have something in your school like that maybe you can get ahold of the person in charge and they can help you with it. If not though I would call whatever place where you schedual appointments and see if it would be possible to do any jobshadowing with a doctor.

I also think for your first shadow it would be better to go to a smaller hospital, because it would be alot less stressful then a larger one where people come in for seriouse emergencies.

Are you serious? I have been denied at every single doctor's office so far, and I think that's because I just used the phone.
I wondered if it would be better to come to the office instead of just calling.
I have never actually talked to the doctor, but have been systematically denied by the person working at the office.

It takes time, but don't give up. Just keep calling around!

I've never had to call a doctor but I called around 12 different offices to get an interview with a physical therapist for my project until I could get one.

When I shadowed a doctor (neurosurgeon), i just called the volunteer office of the hospital. They had me fill out an application, and then they selected a doctor for me according to what type i wanted to shadow. I was able to shadow a neurosurgeon for a week, and i even got to go in the operating room with him. It was an excellent experience. Now i know that i definitely want to be a neurosurgeon.

Finally, I got an interview for shadowing experience. Did any of you guys got an interview with a doctor? If so, what kind of questions did they ask you?

I'm gunna shadow a doctor sometime, but it's very unfairly easy for me since my dad is a doctor and we have lots of friends in every speciality..so I don't have to do any work.
I volunteer at a hospital though and i was asking around about shadowing doctors that worked there because I was curious, and they said it was possible and some doctors were willing..maybe ask around at your local hospital?

Hey, I got my first shadowing experience. Did you guys take notes while watching? Or did you guys just observe? What other stuff could you do while shadowing?
