Hi! I am a proficient artist (drawing), but it doesn't apply to my anticipated major (pre med). Im aware that competitive schools look for students who participate in a vast range of activities and interests ,but im afraid that they wont take notice on the activities i have depth in as it wasnt recommended or required in the applications. How can i show them my artistic skills? Im asking this because art supplements are usually for students pursuing an art major , which i am not .
Help!

Determine whether or not artistry will satisfy a supplemental demand… Appropriately assess the inherent motive of each accompanying query [and] provide visually-articulate demonstrations where relevant; reinforcing your position about the presented textual-proposition. For instance, if prompted to display your passion for a certain scholarly subdivision in medicine; you can make an attempt to fortify your independently-derived scientifically-inclined convictions through an exhibit and/or diagram — [that] showcases not only your intellectual understanding, but your analytical reasoning likewise.

Why not write you essay about your work? I think that would be really cool. What you draw. How people react to it. What you tell them about it. How it has changed you and opened your world. A picture is worth a thousand words, but maybe an essay gets you into a good school!

@phantombrain Huh?

Anyone who wants to can submit an art supplement. If you think it will add to your overall application, put one together and send it.

Agree, post #1 seems like nonsense to me. I agree with @happymomof1, go ahead and send the art supplement. The art teachers at your high school probably have experience with how to put one together, so check with them.

@happymomof1 and @intparent : if i want to submit an art supplement , does it have to be in the form of an art portfolio or can i just send them a few of my work along with other certificates of art competitions i have won ? Would this be detrimental to my application by making me look like i am trying too hard?

You don’t send in your original work, usually you send in photographs of your work (your school art teachers may have helped other students put together portfolios, they often have experience with this). I would not send in certificates. I would put something in “additional information” that listed the awards you have won instead. A hint to get good formatting on the additional info section, use a plain text editor (not Word) to format the way you want it, then cut and paste (this can help you with a bulleted list, for example). I have heard you may need to put an extra space between lines to get the line breaks to work the way you want them to as well. Print out your app and review on paper before you send in to see how it looks.

@intparent I am actually not from the US , here my art teachers don’t know how to put an art portfolio together, so i am trying to get as much help as i can from the internet .
You were of great help though ! Thanks! (:
