It's been three years in school, and I've been in a handful of clubs, but I've always felt it to be kind of empty. Then I realized that my school had no history club, and itd be cool if it had one. But even if I am the one to found the club, how do I go about it? What kind of things do you do in a history club?
any anecdotes from other schools's history clubs would be greatly appreciated

I know this may not be any help, but I have the same problem, and was just about to post a thread like this one. Anyways, you’re not alone, I’m a history geek too ;)!

I reestablished a history club, but it was just a place where I taught underclassmen to prepare for their AP exams in history… maybe you could do that?

You could plan field trips to historical sites, help out a local historical society, or raise local awareness of history!

Not to sound rude, but I’m not confident that the average high schooler would take time out of their day to go to History Club. I’m not saying that the idea of creating a history club is awful, I just think that you would really have to get the club’s name out their to really gain attention. As for ideas, what bsmd11 suggested seems like a good idea, their are students who would probably like tutoring not just for AP History but History in general. I would also recommend field trips, trivia games on history (jeopardy?), snacks and refreshments for school meetings (it’s a must, no one want to go to a meeting w/o food, and maybe events that students school-wide might participate in (maybe sponser a day in which they dress up as a notable historical figure?).

Good Luck

I’m not sure if this is exactly what you’re looking for but my friends and I started a National History Day club at our school. Basically you show how something in history related to the assigned topic of the year changed the modern world through a medium of your choice. We went to nationals when we did it in middle school and it was a blast. This year, we won best religious entry at state. Anyways, try looking into that…you can choose to make a website, video, skit, and etc…

I’m in my school’s History Club. We are a small group of students that act sort of like a family. We take trips to historical sites, events, and dinners honoring historians. We participate in debates and competitions around the country.

First get a teacher to be your club advisor
Then, market to the right people. Find student who you know will be interested in history.

Okay, I started a history club, and it is going so well! So far we have had two meetings. In the first meeting, we discussed historical inaccuracies in modern media–naturally we scrutinized the movie 300. In the second meeting we had a trivia day, which was a lot of fun. We are planning on having guest speakers in the future. It has turned out to be a great experience for me!

just watch the history channel or w/e

Wow…the first post is from 2006.

Thank you fortetennis for bringing back a 5 year old thread… lol.
