I want to start an organization, but instead of donating money I would have people donate their books (that are in good condition and that they do not use). Then after collecting a lot of them, I would donate it to schools (elementary) in towns that are very poor and can not afford things like this. I value education a lot and I really want to do this, but I do not know how, if anyone knows please let me know how to do this? and if you have any ideas to improve my idea of the organization also leave it in the comments
Check what these places actually need. School and libraries just don’t take random books, ti just doesn’t work that way. Around here the donation book drop boxes are everywhere. Don’t reinvent a wheel.
Agreed with the above. Look to see if an organization is doing something similar, and volunteer your time, not money. A lot of nonprofits are okay on donations but need more help with people on the ground.
Starting a nonprofit may look good on paper, but it may not have as much impact as helping an existing one.
Also, books are HEAVY. How are you going to cover the cost of transporting them?
My niece did her Girl Scout Gold Award project in a similar vein. The city of Austin had a bunch of old textbooks in a warehouse they were trying to get rid of. My niece raised money for shipping and sent them to Africa, where they were happily accepted and used. For his Eagle Scout project, my nephew collected old computers and had them refurbished and raised money to send them to the same African country. Then my sister took both kids to the schools using the computers and books. While the kids volunteered in school, my sister (a special ed teacher who trains other teachers) held workshops for the local teachers. It was pretty cool.
