How to study ACT science- 28 to 33+

I've been trying for a while now to improve my ACT science and just cant. I've taken the test 3 times and have improved all other sections but science has stayed the same(26,28,28)

How can I improve this? I wanna try to take it again in October

Thanks

Practice, man. It’s all about speed. Don’t read the passages before answering the questions. Generally 4-5 of the passages will require minimal reading. Just look at the questions that ask about the charts/data first and answer those (without reading the paragraphs), then when you complete all of those, move onto the questions that require only reading one paragraph, and then finally move onto the conflicting viewpoints of scientists passage(s). Just keep doing practice tests and timing yourself accurately and you’ll get your score up. Remember, it’s basically reading comprehension – but it requires consistent logic analysis, and that’s something you can’t just attain in a single night.

Every Science Passage has 3 or 4 questions which are relatively easy to answer. Should you jump between the passages to answer the easy questions first and then attend the remaining questions or this is bad idea? I’m thinking this will work for passages that do not require thorough reading to answer questions. This may work for data /chart analysis type of passages. Can you suggest some strategies for science section?

I dont have much of a time issue anymore, its more of me just getting it wrong for some reason…that I don’t even know which is why I am getting frustrated.

@bella1234 i dont recommend jumping back and forth between passages because then you might forget some vital information which could be a small detail u wont remember

The last ACT I took, I barely read any of the data that they give you before reading the questions. It can be a waste of time to read the data, look at a question, and have to hunt through the data again. Try to read as little data as you can when you get to a new section, it will give you more time to hunt for answers when you actually need too.

After taking the practice test, how do you guys study what you got wrong? Like in Math or english its easy to learn the grammar or formula, but what do you do for science? Will my score go up just by taking practice tests and quickly glancing over why I got it wrong or do I have to througly go through my test?

Yeah. I didn’t take any practice tests. But if I were you I’d just familiarize yourself with the types of questions they ask and know how to quickly interpret whatever data and graphs that are most often shown on a test.

bump…
