Hello!
I am interested in taking SAT Chemistry in October. It is now August, so I was wondering, how did you study? I haven't taken AP Chemistry, so a few of the concepts are relatively new. I took the three practice tests that Sparknotes offers online, and I was not satisfied with the results. I am aiming for at least a 760, but on these practice tests, I scored 620 twice then a 590 :(
Any tips on how to prepare?
Thanks in advance!

I should also mention that i purchased Barrons review book.

Barron’s is notoriously more difficult than the actual test. But actually go through the topics in Barron’s, don’t just take the practice tests. I didn’t have AP Chem either, just two years of regular chem and I was able to get a 780 from what I knew and going through practice tests - I used Kaplan’s and Princeton Review.

Yeah ive been reading it. I only took one year of chem, so are there any strategies you think are good*

i found the sparknotes tests to be much tougher than the real thing. iirc, i scored in the 600-700 range on sparknotes, yet got 800 on the june SAT test, so don’t give up hope!

like ptontiger16 said, use the barron’s book to study. i looked over my friend’s copy a little bit and thought it offered good explanations. just brush up on what you didn’t do well in and try a real, collegeboard given practice test after.

Barron’s is all you really need, but look through Princeton as well. It explains some concepts better than the Barron’s book does.

Bump bump bump

While taking AP Chemistry I just took all the practice tests in the Barron’s book, didn’t read anything else in the book, and I scored a 780 on test day.

By the way, on most tests in the Barron’s book I was only scoring 720-750, so expect to do better than you do on the practice tests in the book.

Barrons in general is very good.
