How to submit addition academic supplemental material?

Research is a big part of my application. Thus, I would like to submit a research paper that I wrote (1st author) and published (to a legit and reputable scientific journal). I read on the UPenn website that I can submit an abstract as the "extend resume." However, I want to submit the whole paper. How should I do it? Thanks in advance!

Don’t submit the whole paper: if they specifically mention that you should submit an abstract, I really think that implies they are disinterested in reading an entire paper.

A good alternative would be to contact a professor at Penn in the relevant field and submit the paper to them along with questions about study in that field at Penn. At least in my department, professors LOVE students who proactively seek them out, and this might be something you could mention to admissions in a separate email.

Alright, thanks!

Pretty much. Submit an abstract.

For what it’s worth, @skieurope, the [admissions site](http://www.admissions.upenn.edu/apply/supplements) doesn’t explicitly state that “they do not want the entire research paper” and there are plenty of ways to send additional material that isn’t asked for on the main application. @Calvin689111‌ could certainly send his entire paper to the admissions committee without breaking any of the stated rules/requirements/whatever.

When I applied, I sent one extra letter of recommendation beyond what was requested because the letter came from a US Senator and I was quite proud of it. But, of course, there’s a difference between a single-page letter of recommendation vs. a lengthy, specialized academic paper in a field where the essay reviewer isn’t an expert. They might have glossed over my letter of rec but it’s a safe bet to say that they will not even try to read a published research paper.

which is why they suggest including an abstract; if they want the entire paper, they will ask.
