I took some college classes last year as a HS junior and am taking a couple this year again. I would like to send that transcript to the colleges I am applying. I don’t see anywhere on the CommonApp there is a place where I can invite the college to electronically send my transcript. 1) Does that mean the only option is to have the college mail the paper transcript? 2) It costs $10/transcript. I am applying about 10 schools. If I want to include Fall 2015 grades, the transcripts will reach all the colleges after Jan 1 deadline. Is it advisable that I bite the bullet, send transcript before the deadline without Fall 2015 grades, then one more time for the mid-year report?
I’m afraid that the answer is yes, and it is darned expensive. You are required to send all transcripts for college courses, so it’s not like you can decide not to. My daughter was homeschooled, had transcripts from three different colleges, and applied to a bunch of colleges. It hurt, but it wasn’t optional.
We did not do the mid-year report transcript request, but since she was homeschooled, I was able to put those grades on the transcript I submitted at mid-year. That’s a question to ask the colleges. It’s painful enough to pay for all those once; twice would be a real drag.
The college may be able to send electronic transcripts directly to the colleges you are applying to. You need to ask them what their policy and procedure is for that.
Yes, sometimes they’re able to send them electronically, but the price is usually the same as for paper. It’ll be clear during the online request process what your options are at that particular school.
