how to withdraw from ED

i applied early decision to the LSP program.

my parents just told me that something has come up and i don't know if they can afford NYU as of right now. i didn't apply for financial aid.

plus, i'm having second thoughts on applying ED because i want to see my other options for college.

do you think NYU will take me out of ED consideration and place me in the RD pool? i would still like to be considered for RD. should i email or write a letter? who do i email in this case?

morally, i think that withdrawing is better than applying ED and not withdrawing my other applications because withdrawing right now could possibly give my "spot" to another more deserving student who is 100% for NYU.

get right on the phone and talk to someone. Of course you should move to RD. I would imagine that it’s not too late.

You can also email, but a phone call will confirm immediately that someone there has gotten your request and will act on it.

Have a look at [You’re In. Can You Back Out? - New York Times](You’re In. Can You Back Out? - The New York Times) to see how NYU feels about it.

yeah i hope they will accept moving me from ED to RD.

they haven’t sent out decisions yet so i hope they appreciate me pulling out before decisions rather than (if i get in) accepting and withdrawing later on.
