Help me! My AP World History teacher is killing us! He gives us an essay question and just tells us to write a topic/thesis statement, and then he reads them and critiques them. Its like every thesis we write sucks. I still dont even know how to write a good thesis for a history paper; english i could do, but history....
i can write good intros but i just cant combine all my history knowledge into 1, specific and to-the-point thesis statement. got any tips? and plus it takes me a while to formulate my thoughts and thats why i m REALLY worried about the free response. No one got a 5 last yr (but 1 person did the yr b4). I really want to get that 5. Are there any prep books (besides PR's Cracking the AP WH Exam) that are good at explaining this stuff?

bump.......

from everything2.com: "Formulating a Thesis

Using your outside knowledge of the subject combined with information you gleaned from the documents, begin writing a thesis. Like I mentioned before, qualified is better than absolute; see the gray, not just the black and white. Conflicting evidence is also extremely important. Pick a valid objection to your thesis and address it in your essay with an explanation of why that argument is inferior to yours."

As a note, clearly every teacher's expectations are different. These are just general guidelines.

thanx for th links

don't know if this helps but on the real AP test, it's ok to have a two sentence thesis for history

it's a good thing that your teacher emphasizes the thesis b/c for history aps, you don't need a flowery intro, just a solid thesis and then you can delve into the paper.
