If any current Duke students are out there, I was wondering how difficult the writing course you had to take as a freshman was? Sort of anxious about it, simply b/c my two sisters go to Notre Dame and said that they were a little behind on their writing skills b/c of the english teachers at my school. Thanks for your help! (Hope exams went well for you!)

I don't think it's that difficult, the instructors give out mostly A's and B's. But MAKE SURE you choose a writing topic you are interested in (or if you figure out you're not interested in it, drop the class and add another one). You go through a whole semester on one topic so you better like it.

It's not difficult at all. Their goal is not to make the class wicked hard, but just to give the basic expectations of college writing. I liked my class, easy A.

Don't take it too lightly of course, and I do know people that struggled.

The actual class is decently easy (it varies a lot based on instructor though). The major problem with writing 20 is that it's so incredibly stupid that it's hard to actually bring yourself to put any semblance of effort into it.

My english teacher (a Rhodes scholar and very smart dude, btw) actually told us he thought the Duke Writing Program was total **** that was a waste of time and could potentially harm students' writing abilities.
