How valuable are sports for top schools? Chance me please!

Schools:
-West Point
-Duke
-UChicago
-Rice
-HYPS

Academics:
-GPA unweighted is 3.99, weighted 4.18 ( an A in an honors class/ AP class is a 4.33)
-Class rank is 3/606
-Yet to take ACT/SAT
-All honors, will have taken 9 APs during HS

Sports:
-Varsity Cross Country, Varsity Basketball, Varsity Track
-I will be a captain of atleast 2, hoping for all 3
-All-Conference Honorable Mention in Track and CC as a sophomore
-I also play AAU Basketball in the spring/summer

ECs:
-Just got elected to secretary of NHS, will run for president senior year
-Elected Public Relations of Student Council but turned down position, thought I would be crunched for time with the year round sports and do not want academics to slide
-Lettered in FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) hoping to acquire a leadership position in this because it is probably my favorite EC
-I made wind ensemble and have been playing trumpet since 6th grade, considering joining jazz band
-I teach sunday school at my church
-During the summer I do weight training, lots of running, and volunteer at my local hospital

My question is how valuable are my 3 varsity sports that I will hold captain positions in for these top colleges? Do I have a chance?

It helped me immensely.

What’s you’re ACT/SAT score? If it’s decent, you have a good shot at many of these schools.

Great to hear, what sports were you in and where did you end up going to school?

Thank you!! I haven’t taken either, but am planning to do a lot of studying and re-taking if I have to!

I played soccer at a regional level (WI, MN, MI, OH, IL, NE, ND, SD, IA, KY, MO) and for one of the top teams in my state.

Colleges look highly upon applicants with a passion that they pursue relentlessly while challenging themselves consistently. Rather than scattering your interests, do something you love, do it well and demonstrate the impact it has had on you as an individual.

Edit: I applied ED to Northwestern and was accepted. It had been my number one for several years and I put a conscious effort into the essays to demonstrate my desire to make the Northwestern community better than it already is.

You must be amazing.

While your sarcasm was probably intended to be funny, it makes you look like an ass.

I was just touching on how athletics were significant to my experience. It’s your choice to misinterpret it.

Thank you very much, that’s cool you got into Northwestern. I don’t really have a college that I want to apply to ED, but do you think I have a chance at the schools I listed? I know they are ‘high reaches for everyone’ and that I don’t have a ‘hook’ for the ivies but what do you think?

Tough to say without an ACT/SAT. That’s crucial. If you score a 29 you put yourself in a difficult position. A 34 makes you extremely competitive.

The athletics make a difference as long as you show some level of dedication. It doesn’t matter if you play a bunch of sports but show no commitment to them. AAU, for example, is a great detail to play up - where were your tournaments, how did your team rank nationally/regionally? It’s information like that that will turn heads. There are plenty of people who participate in three sports but aren’t necessarily excellent athletes.

Alright, cool. Thanks a lot!

EDIT: Just found out this morning I’ve been selected to be a leader for Fellowship of Christian Athletes (:

Anyone else have any input?

bumppppppppppp

Are you D1? I don’t see you getting into HYPS (unless you get a higher than a 2200 SAT or 34 ACT). But you will prolly get into the rest.

Potentially… To be a tier 2 division 1 recruit you need to run a 4:25 mile or 1:55 half mile… I just joined track 9th grade and this year as a sophomore I ran a 4:35 mile and 2:02 half mile so hopefully!
