Hey guys,
this is to anyone who currently attends JHU. Did you truthfully enjoy your freshman year? Do you like the people/did you fit in?
I know about 7 people who have transferred out this year

People who transfer out their freshman year don’t give their school a shot as deadlines aren’t that late. The vast majority (98%) of JHU freshman continue on as sophomores. The 2% figure includes transfers and withdrawn students, so you can imagine not too many transfer out. If you didn’t enjoy freshman year, it could be you need to branch out more and pursue your interests by joining clubs. My friends definitely made my college experience though. Having no friends or hanging with people with dissimilar personalities would ruin your experience anywhere.

I did NOT enjoy freshman year actually. I seriously considered transferring out. I would definitely consider becoming more active outside of your classes (seconding what the above poster said). I found a couple clubs I really enjoyed, and played club field hockey starting my sophomore year. Having people who I KNEW I was going to see, say, every Thursday for practice gave me more to look forward to and made me happier.

Freshman year is tough for almost everyone because it’s such a huge transition. Sophomore year I think you really start coming in to your own and finding your place on campus.

Do you have any doubts/problems about your experience with Hopkins? You can message or email me if you want to talk more privately.

I also didn’t have to take anymore calc after freshman year ;)
