@Seashel - When I was at Clemson, I knew a girl from California who was at Clemson. She loved her experience at Clemson and it seems like she even recruited a bunch of people from her high school by the time she graduated to go there as well! She’s now back in San Francisco working for Cisco so by no means are you stuck in the South after graduation as well. If your daughter wants to come check out Clemson and is ok with the distance, then I’d say go for it! Getting to see another part of the country was a big reason I went to Clemson (I’m originally from Boston).

Seashel–our California raised S went to Clemson, graduated in May. I was very concerned that he’d never survive, going from SF to small Clemson. He survived and thrived! He was sad to see his time there end. A group of his Tiger pals reunited in Clemson a few weeks ago for a game. His exact words to me were: “I fell in love with Clemson all over again”! They are already planning on a game next year. His closest pals were from all over: SC, VA, MN, WY, GA, MA, CT, MD, NC.

I wouldn’t worry about fitting in. Clemson is our local university (lucky, I know) Believe it or not, our area is filled with people from around the country - ESPECIALLY from Mass, CT, NH, etc. People at Clemson are very nice and accepting, as long as you are nice to them! There are some that come from up north who continually put us down and our way of doing things…so to those people: the interstate goes both ways! But seriously, come down, have fun, reach out to others (sororities and clubs are great) and enjoy life in the South! Clemson is an amazing experience and you will laugh at us when we get 1 inch of snow and shut down for 3 days.

My D goes to Clemson, and is in a Sorority. She is not from South Carolina. Yes there are a couple of sororities that are basicly from the South, out of 12, there are maybe 2. So do not worry. Fall Rush is stressful, because it is so compact, but take it one day at a time, and you will be fine.

We are from the South but are not religious at all. I saw the above post about most students being religious. Will this be an issue?

That is an easy answer, No it will not be an issue.

Clemson is not a religious institution so obviously there will be a good number of students who are not religious. Yes there are a large number of students involved in christian organizations (FCA - Fellowship of Christian Athletes is one of the largest student chapters in the country) but like Greek Life, if you choose not to participate it’s not a problem at all.

Based on what you explained about yourself, you sound exactly like a Clemson student. I live here, and that is exactly how Clemson is. We live in the Bible Belt, so church is big. The area is generally more conservative than most places. (However, being a college, it’s not as conservative as the adults here. But definitely more so than a liberal arts school.). Football is HUGE! We are one of if not the biggest tailgating school in the country. You will not be disappointed with sports.
