Need honest opinions about fitting in

I just read the thread about fitting in and want to add another dimension. My daughter just got accepted to honors and she is seriously considering Clemson. She is from NJ and is 1/2 Chinese. So not only does she have the North thing going but she has the race card as well. Sh is very athletic and very outgoing. I know she would want to rush a sorority. My husband (Chinese) has concerns about her fitting in. I don't want to be naive. Can anyone give me honest feedback on this. I would appreciate honesty compared to what we wish was the truth. Last thing I want is to have her far and not be happy. Thanks in advance.

whale18, I just graduated from Clemson in December. My family lives in Boston where I grew up and I’m Chinese. I had an amazing experience at Clemson. I definitely understand the concerns - I had them as well. It was different at first since I went to a high school that was 18% asian (and Clemson’s asian population is 2%) but I got used to it. Obviously with a school of 18,000 people there are going to be people who are racist (intentionally or unintentionally) but there are racist people everywhere and they are a very small minority at Clemson - same with the north vs. south thing. Everybody else is very friendly no matter where you’re from or what your race is. I know off the top of my head a couple asians who have rushed sororities and seem to have had a great experience so I wouldn’t be worried if that’s what she wants to do. If she’s outgoing, she’ll have no problem fitting in at Clemson.

Definitely let me know if you have any questions or concerns!

Thank you Pierre 0913 for taking the time to reply. My daughter Is very outgoing … Lots of clubs, student council and 3 varsity sports. We are actually in Boston now for BC accepted students. Beautiful day. Time to plan a trip to clemson

We just got back from Clemson, also from NJ…Was second visit Nd I didn’t see or feel any issues due to being from the North or being Asian…daughter very close to committing to Clemson…still a couple of things for her to consider…
