How will admissions view starting a company?

Okay, so basically I’m a very generic student who has a decent rank and ACT score. Recently, about a year ago, I started a company out of passion. I was wondering if it would be best to mention it in my college essays or should I just leave it under the awards section of my resume. This is one of my major accomplishments and I want this to be noticed in the right way.

What do you guys think?

Some of the colleges I have in mind are:
University of Texas at Austin
University of Texas at Dallas
Georgia Institute of Technology
University of Michigan - Ann Harbor
University of Illinois - Urbana Champaign
Northeastern University

It should be mentioned in the activity section and part of one of your essays.

It depends how much of the responsibility you bore in running the company.

I think’s its only impressive if the subsequent result is great. Frankly, anyone who does some research can start a business or a Non-Profit. It’s what you’ve concretely accomplished that matters.

Company? Non-profit Organization? How much revenue are you generating? Are your track records significant?

So far, I’d say that I have made good progress but nothing to receive any awards. I’m just not sure how to put this on my applications.

Probably both in the activities section and in the essay.

Having it just in the activities section but not in an essay will tell colleges that that was not a very significant activity to you.

If you have employees, say you started a company.

If you just wrote some apps, just say you wrote some apps.
