Even ignoring the issues all week, we encountered issues all of yesterday, including a letter of rec invite not being sent and being completely locked out of the site for a lengthy duration of time. Michigan admissions phones were busy all day. Michigan chat was unavail. Common App emails weren’t responded to, obviously. The rec invites finally sent and we were able to get back into the site using a different browser application. When copying and pasting text into essays we were booted from the site. Error messages x 20. It’s very bizarre that Michigan didn’t extend the early-action date until Monday, at the very least. To be honest, my daughter will now be spending the next week perfecting her applications to Chicago and Northwestern. I am certain those applications wouldn’t have received the same level of dedication if Michigan had matched their deadline extensions.

^^that is not unusual for Michigan to NOT create extensions and they are quite clear on the website what the deadline is and what is needed to be done to meet the requirements and what those requirements are. Last year east coast students that were impacted by Sandy were able to appeal to be considered for EA with documentation of the problems sending in the pieces of the application.so there are occasions where Michigan bends a tiny bit. Michigan gets a ton of applications, it is a big huge pubic institution. The “nice” thing is they are consistent so everyone has the same opportunity at EA. If there are legitimate issues meeting EA that are documented, they will review. I suggest you use that avenue if you had legitimate issues meeting the deadline and you find that the EA requirements were missed if the Michigan application is a serious one. It’s alittle bit of a big boy/big girl university in that they expect kids to do what they need to do. The application process is not fun and it’s not particularly friendly. It is what it is. Our Michigan high school is all over kids that are applying to UofM beginning with the first day of senior year so they aren’t sitting at the end of October with “issues.”

For teachers and counselors recs, they are being lenient until Nov 4.

Only for issues relating to those parts of application (NOT student applications, NOT test scores).

Would I still be considered for EA if I submitted my common app on time, but the supplements a day after the deadline? After I submitted my supplements, common app sent me to a page that basically said, you have submitted your supplements successfully for EA.

Samurai, you should probably cite where you found that deadline, this is so important to kids (to know whether or not they met the deadline) it would be good to cite the source. I don’t have a kid in the app cycle this year so have not heard of any extensions.

AmyMichelle you will receive an e-mail in a week or two that will confirm if/that you met the EA deadline.

Momofthreeboys, not trying to be difficult. It is not posted publicly. It was a letter received by a member of a professional group I am part of.

If you look at the FB page for the Univ of Michigan admissions, they say, more than once about giving kids the benefit if the doubt. They also discuss the problems of submissions by teachers and counslors.

If Ii were you, I would be asking for same proof. I understand.

If your kid hasn’t submitted app yet, there will likely be a problem. If teachers or counselors have been trying to submit their docs with difficulty, then from the way I read this letter, they have until Nov 4 to complete the process.

Also, the UM admissions twitter feed responded to a couple of people asking about recs soecifically. They said they know about problems with submission forteachers and counselors and will take that into consideration for EA.

^^I am sure there kids that hope you are correct.

Yes, I know. It is a nerve wracking experience normally, but this year is terrible with the Common App technical issues.
