I find myself constantly being worried about where I'll get accepted. For instance, right now its 2:30 in the morning and I have nothing better to do than to worry about college.

I only got a 23 ACT and a 3.4 GPA. I just keep finding myself looking at different colleges online during the late hours.

I can't really settle on places I want to apply at either with my grades. The only one I think I've definitely decided to apply at is Michigan State and even then I'm not the most confident on if I'll get in.

It seems my parents keep putting pressure on me. It seems like that for my friends as well. It seems as though sometimes parents, while they want their children to do better than them. They don't know how much the constant bickering about college affects people. I realize my parents really just want me to do better since my dad only went to tech school and my mom didn't go to college at all.

I worry too, though I don't lose sleep over it. It does, however, bother me a lot. I think it bothers me more because I go to such a competitive school.. Bah.

yeah. I think i spend like 3hrs a day on this website and college is always on my mind. My friends and siblings think I'm obsessed and I am, it's become a major part of my daily thoughts and actions.

I word for what it is worth. I am a parent whose S will be applying to schools in the fall. He has good stats and will be applying to good schools, (e.g. GW, UVa, G-Town, etc.. ). Not sure which is his top choice, if any, yet. As a CPA and an Attorney, in my profession, I have seen a cross section of colleagues, clients,etc.. who came from many different kinds of schools. In the end, for most people, the college you go to is important but probably less important than you think. The contacts you make, the intern programs you become involved in, the professors you know, the alumni you meet, the grades you pull, the scores you do on any tests for grad schools ....all matter just as much. It was Joseph Kennedy who replied when asked what was the most important thing he learned from attending Harvard - - " I learned how to compile an immense rolodex of contacts.....". Enjoy the summer, things will work out for the best..MBJ

And I don't worry about whether or not our kids will "get in" - I'm more concerned about if we will be able to afford it (most of the schools in question are only affordable if they recieve scholarships).

Bottom line, however, is that they will apply to those expensive privates AND a couple of affordable state schools. Certainly the state schools are not as exciting (and in some cases don't provide the extras that our kids would like and benefit from) but they would offer a solid education just the same. Whatever will be will be (to quote Doris Day) - and although as a parent I may be "disappointed" that the ideal school doesn't become a reality, that is not a reflection on what I think of my kid - I think that any school would be darn lucky to have them. They will succeed regardless of where they go.

I am concrened with getting in accpeted into college, the more I think about it the more I get worried..&& now that I know about this site im defiantly on it all the time even @ work lol..

Use this site to the extent that it is a resource, and not any further, because it will become a distraction. In appropriate doses, CC is an incredible source of information, but of course, if you spend your entire life on this forum, and don't get anything else done, your knowledge of the college admissions process will be overshadowed by your lack of real-world accomplishments.

^^ Me too!! Every time I look at a calendar and see December 2007 and April 2008, my stomach does flips because I know that I will get my college decisions by then!

I'm not worried... I figure I'll get in somewhere and be happy wherever it is (though I certainly hope it's good)... but at the same time, I, too, can't get off this site.

I'm worried sick that I'll be rejected from all my top choices and I'll have to "settle" for the state uni/local private. Nothing against those who choose the latter of course (states far, far too big, the local is too close for me).
