Title question

I visited and I think there really is something for everyone. Academics and partying are equally strong - but that can be expected from any school with sport/collegiate spirit. I really felt a strong Greek system - but maybe that’s because I interacted with the most ridiculous frat guys.

I loved the classrooms. The level of innovative inquiry and self-reflective education was appealing. There are world changers at Duke. At the same time, there is a huge party scene. On Thursdays and Fridays people like to go to shooters and the local bar scene. That is not to say everyone drinks and is high out of their mind. Although there were quite a few hookas and weed there. There are SLGs for people not into the whole party scene.

When I visited, I got the impression that greek life/parties dominate the social scene.

The academic atmosphere was a bit harder to detect. At first glance, it seemed as though no one was stressed at all with their grades/classes. However, when I talked to students on an individual basis, it became clear that everyone there really cared about their grades. Maybe not always stressed (which is good), but they all cared about them (which is also good).
