Well I posted this about 18 days ago, and my list has changed a little bit.

Here's how I rank them...what are your thoughts?

UMiami (My undisputed #1....I really want to go there next year)

UCSB

Loyola Marymount

Pepperdine

University of San Diego

UCSB- much better location than Miami, much cheaper

Miami

Pepperdine

SDSU

ASU

Loyola Marymount- not worth the money

USD- see above

Which school has better Academics ? Miami of UCSB ?

I would say:
-Miami (awesome city, campus is nice, if ur from up north, great weather, and has good academics.)
-Indiana ( great college town, gorgeous campus, Public IVY, good academics, middle of nowhere :( )
- SDSU: good academics and San Diego is a nice city.
-Arizona State: awesome campus, descent academics, ranked lower than University of Arizone, and i personally dont like being in the middle of a desert lol even though its Phoenix :D)
-Loyola Marymount: would not pick over any of these. little recognition. not nationally ranked. very little sports and well i dont see much social life there.
pick a good state school or nationally ranked private school preferably with nice sports. you will get a great exp.

... your question is kind of unreasonable. There are so many different factors to each of the elements you listed. You need to think about the following and then make your own decision...
Academics- small, group type discussions OR big lecture halls with award winning professors?
Athletics- do you want a school with alot of spirit OR do you want a school that has a big name?
Social Life- what do you consider a good time? do you want to go out to a theater performance or a concert OR do you want to go to a frat party OR do you want to go clubbing?
Student Body- do you want diversity OR do you want a homogeneous group of people just like you OR do you have specific political or social views that you feel strongly about?
Location, Weather, Campus- what do you like? warm weather? cold weather? a school within a big city? or a small city within a school's campus? do you like a small compact campus? or a spready, tree lined, grassy campus?

...if I answer these questions for myself, I would pick University of Miami or UCSB.

the circle goes back to my question lol. Which has better academics ........ UCSB or Miami .........

i hope this is helpful hijacking haha

acarta you forgot to add that ASU has the best looking female population in the world.... just saying. ...

dont go to lmu unless they pay your way

What's wrong with LMU?

LMU is a small school, not much to do imo compared to big schools with lots of school spirit such as ASU and Miami. Fact is I reccommend Miami over UCSB. Miami has a very good name internationally. and nationally as well. ask anyone outside the US, u know UM, they say yea and they will probably tell you they have someone related that attended there. This is espeically tue in Latin America. I have been in various Latin American Schools and every year a huge group applies there.
That being said Miami and UCSB has equal academics but Miami offers more. They have enginnerrin, medecine (top school), Law (top school) and Business (top school). not only academics but awesome sports. they have all sorts of clubs and tailgating games are very prevalent on campus. UCSB has great academics. good party scene, but u cant compare that to partying in SOuth Beach. and UCSB has a good campus as well, but not that good sports. I ust see more advantages at Miami. only negative is tuition. Miami is reallllllyyyyy $$$$$$$$.

you also state in the OP "... overall college experience..."
This therefor does not mean only academics, but also social life, campus, sports, spirit, facilities and appearance of those of the other sex.

This might sound immature but i would actually put ASU on the top of the list considering the social life, sports, campus etc.
It definetly compensates for the academics that aren't as good as the other ones such as Miami..... On the other hand... ASU has one of the best honors programs in the country, so if you are serious and like to party... and don't want to superspend like you would do at Miami... ASU Honors Program might be right for you.
Cheers

and i don't believe I have to explain the weather situation at ASU..

The social life is better at UCSB. ASU used to be really frat oriented, now the frats are getting shut down and cops are on the lookout for parties. At UCSB, the cops don't bother shutting down parties.

Groen, FYI, Miami is stron on academics. as a matter of fact, its stronger than ASU. to start off with, overall, Miami is ranked 54 which is comparable with George Washington Uni, Pitt, and U Maryand. ASU is what a third tier school according to US News and it faces tough competition between Arizona which is a National Top 100 school. Miami has a top medical school and communications school. Very good law school and business school and a descent engeneering school. Plus Miami has a huge amount of prestige internationally, as i previously stated, most ppl, especially in Latin America know or have relatives or friends attending and or graduated. This being said, Miami, aside from tuition which sucks compared o ASU's great tuition, is a better option than ASU.

Pepperdine does not fit in AT ALL with the other schools on your list.
