Read read read. Don't read Harry Potter.

I never thought of that - that really isn't too fair considering english isn't your primary language.

I'm Chinese and I got 690 in oct. It's no big deal.

Idontknow :690 is pretty good . i am a chinese, too. where do you live? i am in beijing.

^I'm from Hangzhou. My Nov retake is coming up. Hope I can jump in to the 700s on CR and 750+ on W...

590 or 690?

I know A LOT of people that don't have English as a first language and I know it's really hard.

My advice is the same, read, read read. Even Harry Potter. ;) And try practice questions.

I'm not an avid reader...
but I went from 600s to 800 using the blue book(define all the unfamiliar words) and really do all the practice tests timed + review answers and look for patterns

kaplans 1400 or so word list

I'm asian too and at first I got a 570. I just took a lot of practice cr sections and memorized words from the vocab book, Direct Hits (Volume 1 and 2) and some of the list from Gruebers, and read books such as Walden by thoreau, essays by Emerson, and other intellectual writings. I had a 140 point increase to get a 710 on the October SAT, so it's definitely possible.

i got a 690 and Im chinese also
don't worry one score doesn't say anything about who you are as a person, you did well good job
