Howard University Class of 2020!

@ThatPeprika Thank you! I got my scholarship notification by email on March 8th and my admissions decision by email (and later by mail) on January 29th.

Has anyone found information regarding what percentage of students lose the scholarship? The GPA requirement for renewal is very high. I’m a bit concerned and may not let my D apply as a result.

@itsgettingreal17 I don’t know the percentage but I know my niece lost her scholarship when her grades slipped. She told me that they over-extended themselves with scholarships last year and they needed to make that money up they were waiting for a reason to revoke. That’s probably why they changed the parameters around giving scholarships this year.

My daughter applied early admission and I keep getting the same message “we had a record number of applicants” They can’t answer why they would start looking at regular decision before all early action apps have been reviewed.

@Chspencer2 thats totally unacceptable. You should call the Presidents office.

Honestly, I am surprised that Howard has “a record number of applicants” considering how poorly organized they are. If it weren’t for the scholarship I would have been completely turned off by the school and moved on to other universities.

This is firsthand knowledge, Howard has its problems, thats no secret. The administration is awful, however, the kids have so many opportunities. I have one at Howard, and one that graduated top of class at a PWI, and my Howard student has had WAY more opportunities for internships, etc, than my other student. Employers love Howard students, but you have to be prepared for all the other crap. Fortunately, my child has a scholarship and we pay the rest out of pocket so i dont have to deal with financial aid etc. I am not sure if this child will get the scholarship if it is true they added a need component to it, as we dont qualify for aid.

When is the latest one would expect to hear from Howard? My friend applied same time as me–I heard back pretty early and she hasn’t heard anything–she’s freaking out.

Is anyone here who applied for regular decision and already got mails regarding their admission and the scholarships ? It’s been worst waiting for their decision :-/

I called the admissions office this morning and the lady said that the data base is down then she gave me the email of my admissions counselor. Hopefully I will be hearing from him soon.

Has anyone gotten any more information on the freshman merit scholarships?

@partyof5 @asim90 They were sent already a few weeks ago, you can also check your portal for it too

@partyof5 I haven’t heard anything yet

Me neither. Howard is well within their rights to change the merit scholarship program, but it was not cool for them to change it midstream. They shouldve clearly had it on their financial aid page that the requirements would change. Had I known, I wouldve had my child apply to Hampton, because she wouldve gotten full tuition.

Spoke to someone in FA, and she confirmed the old Laureate and Legacy scholarships no longer exist. The capstone does have a need component, so that rules us out. She did say they are behind and not all scholarships have been given out.

Then I don’t think now i am getting any mails from Howard University. It was my dream to get into Hu :(( :((

Check your junk mail for scholarship info. I thought I hadn’t gotten my financial aid yet but it turns out it’s been in my spam for a few days

sooooo when are the rest of us gonna hear back from howard?

I agree Howard has the right to change their scholarship criteria but they definitely should have updated the financial aid website with the new criteria. Families made a very important decision based on this information and now it has changed. My child qualified for the capstone based on criteria on the financial aid website. If there is a need based component my child will not qualify.

I applied in December and I still haven’t heard back. Has anyone heard from howard yet?
