Hello @securemd. Any updates from Seton Hall/Hackensack BSMD or any other?

Hello : just heard from them! I actually got accepted !!! Thanks a lot !!! What do you think of the program ?

Wow! Congratulations. I really don’t know too much firsthand details about the program itself but it guarantees you an interview with the SOM which is major and as long as you excel is the requirements you should be fine. Another good thing about it is you can still apply out to other medical schools by taking the MCAT. So if you like the school and the cost of attendance is reasonable, I don’t see why not. But I’ll advice you throw all your cards open on the main forum so other senior mentors can chip in to help guide your decision

Road-trip to DC tomorrow. We’ll drop my daughter off on Saturday morning, and I’ll see some of you at the 1pm meeting.
Safe travels to all.

I am so excited for cohort 6 and the start of an unparalleled “adventure” for your young scholar (and your family). My oldest starts graduate school this fall and to see her growth as a young adult and scientist has been beyond my own “wildest dreams” for my child while my younger scholar has recently had a “light bulb” moment that I believe will guide his future journey. Also, get ready and “buckle up” for some unparalleled opportunities that will be available to your Karsh STEM Scholar. The hardest part of the journey as a parent is leaving them this weekend.

Please take a look at the recent NYT article posted on CC about why students are choosing HBCUs which has some quotes and pictures from a K-2 cohort member.

Hello!!
Please, can you help me out with that video? I am working on my k7 application currently, but the video seems to be unavailable.
My email address is ekomobongekanem10@gmail.com

I believe that the video that was linked was pulled down by that Karsh STEM Scholar, possibly because it had too much “inside information”. If you look up Karsh STEM Scholars on YouTube, you will find a few other videos about the KSSP including more by that particular scholar and a couple of videos with the Director of the KSSP. I want say good luck to you.

Now that the applications have closed, I just wanted to say good luck to applicants and say that the advertising is much fancier today than when my oldest applied 5 years ago…

Has anyone received notification that they were selected to take the placement test this weekend?

Yes, my daughter was notified this afternoon.

Hello!
I was selected for the Math test on Saturday, and K have registered for it.
I took my first unproctored placement test earlier on and made a 71.
Please, can you guide me further? Am I doing well so far?

My advice is to keep practicing and do the best that you can do. My kids both improved from the unproctored practice test to the actual proctored exam. But I have heard that the KSSP “cut” some students after taking ALEKS in the most recent application cycle (probably due to the size of the applicant pool continuing to grow). When both of my scholars took ALEKS, all of the students selected as Semifinalists got to interview and go through the other events (now called TRACKS). So start by doing the best you can on ALEKS and I am rooting for you.

Thank you so much

I’m sending up prayers of success on the exam and upcoming interviews for everyone. Unfortunately, my daughter withdrew her application. She has mandatory events for other scholarship programs Friday through Tuesday. There was no time for her to take the prep course once the testing window was moved up. Although I’m saddened that my daughter won’t matriculate at Howard, I know there are wonderful things in store for her. No matter where she lands, I’ll still be a proud Bison! HU, You Know!

Hello!
I just took the proctored ALEKS. I made a 94. Will I get selected for the finals? If I am, are travel stipends going to be provided?

Congratulations on such an outstanding score. I have heard of a student with a similar score not moving on as a Karsh finalist, because they are evaluating everything received in the application plus the ALEKS score, but your score definitely won’t hurt you and should help your chances.

There were not any travel stipends when my kids applied, but my K-2 scholar was hosted by on-campus Howard students in their dorm room and fed several times over the Selection weekend. I am not sure what the KSSP are doing today, but maybe some more recent Finalists or their parents can respond. Last year, the students found out rather quickly (testing on March 12 and March 13 and students received Finalist notifications on March 16 by email) so I bet you will find out your status and get more details about Talent Recruitment and Choosing Karsh Scholars weekend (T.R.A.C.K.S) soon. You have done your part by doing the best you can with your application and ALEKS so let’s think positive thoughts and stay patient @imtheonlyone.
