i don't know if i can use this as a hook, but when i was younger i lived in norway for 5 years and traveled all over the place.

female, asian, so'cal, really competitive high school

planning on applying to Johns Hopkins ED next year.
if i don't get in:
cornell
brown
UCB
UCLA
UCI
NYU
UCSD

assuming i do fairly well on my tests (4s and 5s on aps, 700+ on SAT11s, 2100+ on SAT 1), do i have a chance at these schools?

unfortunately..that seems so cliche of an asian person..and no im not being mean here im asian too :D

your GPA is good and since ur aiming for JH..the fact that your doing well in science/math subjects is a nice touch

also a large part of what your going to have to consider is your SAT scores..you cant determine anything unless you have your final scores that you're going to send

in terms of extra curric. violin= passion which is good but its very cliche [again im sry..please dont get offended] of an Asian girl..1-2 years of council wont do too much..what clubs? you really shouldnt have more than 1 cuz then it justs seems as if your trying to impress them with numbers

Remember its about passion and dedication NOT quanitity

So far to me..your stats are just plain..well not boring but typical. DO something that makes YOU stand out..there are MANY opps out there..find one :DDDD GOOD LUCK! lets talk in about a year and see where we get into college LMAO

Well, like usc said, we can't really say much until you get all of your SAT scores. I mean, even if you're looking good now, if you score in the 400's on all of your SAT IIs, you can kiss everything goodbye =P

Anyway, as it stands now... Johns Hopkins, Cornell, and Brown are somewhat reasonable reaches; UCB, UCLA, UCSD, and NYU are your match schools; and UCI is your safety.

Your biggest problem (which is the same thing I have) is probably that it seems like you're applying as a math/science person, but you have no math/science activities... Then again, I dunno if that really is a problem 'cause I've yet to see if I make it into any colleges ^^

Really prestigious high school in So Cal..... Which would that be?

i think you stand out, contrary to what others are saying. Straight A's and a 2100 SAT are nothing to cough at - however, at JHU they do get alot of applications with your criterion.

One thing that could truly push you over the top is to take your violin skills to the next level. Incorporate it in with community service. Show true passion that way, you still have plenty of time - and colleges will recognize any effort.

You are well on your way to success at the moment, and I think that you have a great shot at Hopkins.

Btw, i would be shocked if you scored less than a 600 on your SAT II's. You get high grades at a top private school in So'Cal... you know your stuff. I think this comment "Well, like usc said, we can't really say much until you get all of your SAT scores. I mean, even if you're looking good now, if you score in the 400's on all of your SAT IIs, you can kiss everything goodbye =P" can be ignored

thanks doctorsboy for that, the other comments seriously freaked me out there for a bit. i'm actually thinking about majoring in psycology at hopkins, but i really didn't have room to take the class this year. would it seem really out of the blue if i just chose that for next year? i might take a summer class or whatever, but my school doesn't offer ap pysc.

thanks for that everyone! i know it's kind of hard to predict since i don't have my "numbers" yet.

so anyway, hopkins is the one i really want, so what are the scores i need to get in ED? i've checked some sites and stuff, but i'm still not really sure.
