Chances for Johns Hopkins

Hi, I currently have a pretty low G.P.A., especially for a 'stereotypical asian'

unweighted GPA is a 3.4

courses I took
9th grade
Honors physical science
Honors English 9
Enriched Algebra 2
Honors World CUltures
Orchestra Major
Regular Spanish II

I dont remember my grades, but i do know that I got a D for a semester garde for spanish =(

10th grade
Honors Biology
Honors English 10
Honors WesternCiv/American history I
Enriched Precalc (1st semester)
then i jumped up to Honors precalc (2nd semester)
Orchestra Major
Regular Spanish III
and Orchestra Major
At this point all i remember is that I pulled my D's in spanish up to C's

11th grade

Honors Chemistry -A first semester, B second semester
AP BC calculus (i scored a 4, and a 5 on the AB subscore) B first semester, A second semester

for 12th grade, my courses are

Honors calculus II
AP english
AP European history
Orchestra Major
Music theory
and Microbiology

noticed that I dropped spanish

SAT I 670 math, 670 Crit reading, 640 Writing
(i'm retaking this in october)

SAT II MATH IIC 670
SAT II american history 690

Extra Curriculars

I'm now entering my 7th year as Concertmaster of the school Orchestra.
I've led as the 1st violin in a string quartet that performs for the school and for weddings.
9th grade, i got 1st violin for Districts Orchestra
10th grade, got associate concertmaster of Districts orchestra, Assistant concertmaster of All-Regionals Orchestra, and then 1st violin section for ALl-states Orchestra
I just finished my first year with as a member of the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra, 1st violin section.

I've spent 90+ hours at performing for people at various nursing homes for community service over the past 2 years.
I've been watching over the youth at Church, kind of like a youth leader, but these kids are toddlers.

I plan to make a recording and send it in with my apps.

Now, as an asian, perhaps applying Early Decision to Johns Hopkins, do I have any chance at all? It seems like too many applicants have resumes with my Extra curriculars but with much better GPA's and SAT scores.

I'm also looking at Vassar, Haverford, Wesleyan, and Tufts, as reaches

And then Im looking at University of Rochester, Skidmore, and then for safeties, university of pittsburgh, Boston university, and Penn State.

Any thoughts? Should I completely give up JOhns Hopkins? Thank you

I would say that you should try and raise your SATs by at least 100 points if you can. Being a cellist and musician, I can unequivocally tell you that being good at an instrument (and sending in tapes) will set you apart. Your D will hurt you and almost definitely prevent an Ivy League acceptance, but really emphasize your musical passion in your essays and keep everything else really squeaky clean. QED Don't give up JH!

Thank you, Wayward_trojan.

I also forgot to put that I've been in the Gay Straight ALliance for 3 years.

ALso, is it ok to put awards and such not from the high school days? Back when I was in 3rd grade, I won 3rd place at a national chinese/american calligraphy and art competition, and in 4th grade, i Won 2nd place at a different chinese art competition. Does that not help me at all?

haha no, don't put stuff from before high school. raise your SAT scores A LOT. also, get good (straight A's) first semester senior year.

Hmm, If I were to raise my total score to a 2200 range for SAT, then I'd have good enough reason to at least give applying a try, right?

Of course. 2200 is in the 99th percentile.
