How's Job Recruitement At UCI For The Entertainment Industry

I plan on majoring in business to work in the entertainment industry after graduation, but job recruitment and internships are key to land a good job.

So how is UCI? With it's orange county location it sounds like a hot spot for careers in media.

Any one know about this?

unfortunately, you might have to look a bit harder than if you went to a traditional communications school like Chapman or USC. There are a few that come to the career fairs but it's pretty rare because we are known as a tech schoool.

I don't know if this is related.. but it seems like a lot of reality stars come from UCI... there's Aubrey from Making the Band 3... and the recent Survivor winner... can't think of others...

Getting into the entertainment industry is extremely difficult. Often you have to know someone to get into it. The fact that there are a couple of reality stars who went to UCI will not make one iota of difference in you trying to get a job in entertainment.

If you want to work in entertainment right after graduation, be prepared to be making very little money and doing b*tch work for a lot of years unless you get extremely lucky.

almost all of the southern cal universities have some connections in the industry, though on the business side, indeed all sides, it's almost impossible to beat USC. irvine is a bit off the beaten path though a solid university.
the fast burner right now in the area is chapman.

The UCI-MBA program has moved up pretty fast - in the top 40 now. I believe they have Sports and Entertainment business-clubs. While you are an undergrad, I am sure they wouldn't mind if you got in touch with them.

http://www.gsm.uci.edu/clubpages/emc/main.html

You wouldn't be competing for the same positions and I bet they would be happy to help you out.

If you are looking for jobs in digital entertainment, UCI is a great place as I think they have undergrad courses in this area. But if you are looking for the "studio" type jobs, I would again contact the entertainment club in the MBA school.

(Another tip, I think you can use your student ID at all UC's, so cruise on up to UCLA to check out there job postings and resources too.)

looks like a pretty current web site. 2004? anaheim angels? huh?

^^drj, dont be so critical

For the original poster, I would check them out. Their pictures might be outdated, but it looks like they make an effort to meet with folks in different area - digital entertainment, filmed entertainment and sports management.

Good luck to you.

remember that girl jamie from real world? i think she was from uci also

no. she goes to ucr.

Like someone else mentioned above, its all about connections. Your degree kind of matters, but if you have meaningful internships/jobs then you already have a head start. Dont focus all that hard on the name thats on your degree- get experience because thats what counts the most. Through exp. comes contacts.

Some guy from Walt Disney is heading up a grad program at UCI:
