I’m heading into my Junior year, and thus far I’ve gotten A’s in all of my classes. I haven’t taken an official AP class yet, although I did find it manageable self-studying for two exams within a two-month time-frame. My school doesn’t weight GPAs, so I’m hoping to graduate with a 3.9-4.0 UW. Could you guys take a look at my schedule and let me know what you think (In terms of rigor, diversity, etc.) and inform me of your opinions. Of course, Junior and Senior year schedules are still malleable, so recommendations/suggestions for changes would be appreciated!

Oh, and as a side note, I’m looking to apply to the University of Washington, UC Berkeley, UC Los Angeles, Whitman, Yale, and maybe some other local colleges (I live in the Seattle region).

Have you already discussed the affordability of colleges on your list with your parents?

It seems like a good schedule, but there may be a slight problem.

You’ve never taken an AP class before, and you’re diving headfirst into five AP classes. That will be a major change, especially since some of your previous classes were at a regular level., and since APUSH and AP Chem are considered very time-intensive classes.

It’s okay if you want to have course rigor, but just keep in mind that you may not be used to it all.

Thank you for the comment! Yeah, I haven’t taken an AP class before, but that’s mainly because I had credit obligations to fulfill (PE, etc.) I self-studied for two AP exams and found it to be quite easy, so I couldn’t imagine the material in any AP class to be so overwhelming that I couldn’t handle it. Am I expecting an intense challenge? Absolutely, but not an unbearable one. The reason some of my classes are ‘normal’ is because my school doesn’t offer a medium between AP and normal classes, except for math and english. For example, we don’t have Honors Chem, Honors Bio, Honors Alg 2, Honors Spanish, etc. You just take the next course in succession (ie. Alg 1, Geo, Alg 2) until you are able to get to the AP level. The exceptions at our school are Pre-AP English and AP Prep Precalc.

It’s also worth noting that I sort of ‘switched’ my mindset during the 4th quarter of Sophomore year, because I realized I could have taken, for example, AP World, Psych, or Econ. This is basically the reason why I self-studied for those two exams. I was always expecting a major shift in rigor my junior year, so don’t worry, I’ll be ready for it. (: I don’t consider it a problem, I consider it a challenge.

I took four AP’s…let me tell you, it’s intense. The first month will be brutal. AP test month will be brutal. The rest will be walking just under unbearable. You’ll get used to it within the first 4 weeks. Just take a lot of care to set really good habits early on.

I took all ap classes my senior year (5) and it’s tough. I mean i had lots of extra curricular activities and a job piled on but still. Its tough. I managed to pull off a 93 unweighted average nonetheless, but it was tough. There were nights i didnt sleep and it was stressful. I would recommend you to reconsider it, but if you think you can pull it off then be my guest. Just remember, time management skills are essential. Dont procrastinate.
