Hey so I’m wondering if I should make this my schedule for junior year or if it won’t look good enough to selective colleges? I’ll add my planned senior year schedule too.
Junior year:
English 11
Chemistry
Trigonometry/Pre-Calculus
AP US History
Speech
Spanish 3
Band
Choir
(also self-study both AP Government/Politics tests)
Senior year:
AP Language
Physics
AP Calculus
Am Government (1 sem)
International Conflict (1 sem)
Economics (1 sem)
Current Issues (1 sem)
Spanish 4 or AP Spanish
Band
Choir
(possibly self-study 1 or 2 ap’s)
Does my senior year schedule and self-study stuff make up for only taking one AP course?
To me, your schedule looks moderately rigorous for junior year, ramping up to very rigorous senior year. I think it entirely depends on your school though- like does your school offer a lot of APs? If so, maybe you could try taking a second AP junior year, or make one class an honors class. Just my opinion, though.
“Challenging” depends on your school and what activities you have outside of school. For the most part, I’d say that it might be a little bit on the easier side. I’d recommend you take honor classes if your school offers them. As long as you take the most rigorous schedule that is offered to you and that you can handle then you should be fine.
Does your school offer honors classes? If so, try to take 4 of them (Spanish, Pre-calculus, English, chemistry).
Self studying doesn’t really make up for anything… Adcoms want to see you in class.
If your school doesn’t offer more, you have two choices: take the class through a virtual high school, or try and find a local community college - many have evening and weekend classes where our parents might be able to drive you if there’s no public transportation and you can’t drive.
I agree with the comments above. You should definitely take a look to see if your school offers honors classes and see which AP courses your school offers. Your Junior year schedule looks moderately rigorus to me.However, If you’re aiming for your schedule to look more “demanding”, pinklinks is spot on. If you can, incorporate any additional AP/Honors courses if your school offers them.
Likewise, rather than self-studying a course, look into virt. high schools/ local community colleges if your school doesn’t offer a specific AP course you’re interested in first.
